Executive Director Honoured

The Executive Director of the Centenary Institute, Professor Mathew Vadas, was recently honoured by the Australian Vascular Biology Society (AVBS) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field.

AVBS is an organization that aims to foster research communication by scientists and clinicians from a broad range of disciplines but with a unifying interest in biology of the cardiovascular system.

The Society presented Professor Vadas with the Distinguished Lecturer Award for his work as a spokesperson for Vascular Biology and for his extensive research on angiogenesis and sinensis which has been cited over 1,000 times by researchers in the field.  This award is a particular honour, as it is only the second of this type that AVBS has given.

The Honourable Michael Egan, Chairman of the Board of Governors at Centenary, remarked, “Mathew is a great scientist with a vision of harnessing diversity to achieve scientific outcomes.  I congratulate him on this award.”

Professor Vadas says, “This is a great honour, which comes at a wonderful time when both the Centenary Institute and the University of Sydney are strengthening their research in this field by planning for the opening of a new Centre for Obesity, Diabetes and Vascular Biology.”
