1. Description of prize: The Centenary Institute Lawrence Creative (CILC) Prize will consist of:

1.1. a $25,000 cash prize, the amount to be equally split between an ad hominem award and as a support to the project or scientific travel;

1.2. a perpetual trophy that will be held at the Centenary Institute.

1.3. a matching smaller trophy for the winner.

1.4. an appearance on a TV program about science.

2. Eligibility: A researcher from any Institute, University or Educational Institution in Australia who is less than 8 years postdoctoral as of 31 December 2011. In case of medical graduates time from beginning of substantial research career will be counted. The research work will have been substantially carried out in Australia. The applicant may be a citizen of another country provided the applicant's research career is, or is planned to be in Australia.

3. Scope: The scope of the prize includes biomedical research in its broadest definitions including trans-disciplinary research.

4. Application: The application will consist of a maximum of 5 pages 12 point Times New Roman (or similar) writing. There will be 1 page background, a 2 page description of the creative project/ discovery and evidence of its uptake and or consequences and a 2 page CV. Additional information may be sought by the evaluation committee.

5. Adjudication: Applications will be judged by Members of the Centenary Institute Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and 5 additional outside senior scientists drawn from 4 different tertiary bodies and the Executive Director of the Centenary Institute. The criteria for success will depend on the innovativeness of the application and the degree to which its veracity/ utility have been tested. Supporting material by way of publications or a letter from a knowledgeable, independent colleague will be taken into account.

6. Prize: The Centenary Institute Lawrence Creative Prize will be awarded at a function held in Sydney, Wednesday, 19 October 2011.

7. Responsibilities of the recipient: The shortlisted recipients are required to be present for at least 1 full day in Sydney and be subject to press interviews, photography and filming (if necessary). Travel costs will be borne by the Prize organisers.

8. Timing:

8.1. Call for applications: Wednesday, August 24, 2011.

8.2. Closing date for applications: 5pm, Monday September 19, 2011.
