Centenary exhibits at Government House
With the exhibit, thousands of visitors had the opportunity to experience a striking collection of imagery created by Centenary scientists in the course of their medical research to combat disease and improve lives.
The images, many captured using advanced microscopy techniques, showed both cellular and intracellular worlds, revealing the intricate structures and vibrant patterns hidden within the body.
This included stem cells targeting corneal disease reminiscent of a blooming flower; epithelial cells used in the study of cancer resembling a colourful deep space nebula; and a maze shaped like a broken heart, an artistic metaphor for the challenges of decoding genetic heart disease.
Many of the works on display were entries in the Centenary Institute’s 2025 When Art Meets Science image prize competition, an annual event celebrating the stunning imagery found within Centenary’s research.
In addition to the exhibition, visitors to Government House Sydney enjoyed a day of culture, exploring elegant state rooms, strolling through landscaped grounds and listening to live jazz.
Since 2009, Centenary scientists have been generating artistic and aesthetic images of their research to inform and educate the public, revealing the astonishing beauty that often lies in scientific discovery.
