PhD student acknowledged for outstanding laboratory research

Centenary Institute PhD student, Mark Man Gia Ly has been awarded the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Medical Officers Association President Prize for Laboratory Research.

This prize is awarded for best presentation in laboratory research performed by a trainee or junior medical officer at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

A PhD student in the Centenary Institute’s Liver Enzymes in Metabolism and Inflammation Program, Mark Man Gia Ly presented his research on helping maintain human livers on a perfusion (organ preserving) machine that makes the liver more suitable for transplantation.

The recent recipient of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) Young Investigator Award 2022, Mark Man Gia Ly was also awarded the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) Early Career Research Award (Basic Science) earlier this year. 

The ILTS is the leading international society for liver transplantation practice and research. The TSANZ is the national society for transplantation.
