Dr. Elinor Hortle received her PhD in 2015 studying the genetics of resistance to malaria. She joined the Centenary institute in 2017 to study innate immune responses and host-directed therapies for mycobacterial disease. In 2019 she won the national Bayer Innovation Award for her discovery that anti-platelet drugs could be used to treat mycobacterial infection. In 2021 she began studying both infectious and non-infectious respiratory diseases including COPD and pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. Dr Hortle’s overarching goal is to understand the fundamental interactions between innate immunity and respiratory pathogens / environmental insults, with a strong emphasis on identifying novel therapeutic strategies.
