Dr Matt Johansen is a Chancellor’s Research Fellow & Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney and leads the Microbial Immunopathogenesis Group within the Centre for Infectious Disease & Immunity. Since being awarded his PhD in late 2017, he has made internationally significant contributions to the fields of bacterial and viral infections particularly SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, and established the only PC3 facility capable of performing COVID-19 animal work in NSW.
He has been awarded multiple prestigious grants, fellowships and awards, including the UTS Chancellor’s Research Fellowship, which supports the development of his laboratory group. He continues to publish his research findings in internationally recognised journals including Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Microbiology and American Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine.
