The Centenary Institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a unique opportunity to work alongside world-leading medical researchers, with state-of-the-art facilities, in direct collaboration with the University of Sydney, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and UTS.

Inflammation is increasingly being found to play crucial roles in the development of many major diseases, including Alzheimer’s, heart disease, cancer, respiratory diseases, diabetes, tuberculosis and COVID-19. -

Our Gene and Stem Cell Therapy program focuses it’s research on cancer and genetic diseases. -
Gorrell
The ongoing increase in all forms of liver disease is a large burden for our healthcare system. Especially the 350% increase in liver cancer in the last 30 years. Much of this increase is attributed to metabolic disease, often in conjunction with diabetes. Our focus in liver disease research is understanding the roles of a key enzyme family in progressive liver damage and cancer. -

Gene regulation is frequently dysregulated in cancer. During cancer initiation, transcription factors can exhibit somatic mutations including point mutations in regulatory domains or undergo copy number variations due to genetic deletion.
