Dr Jessica Orchard, Research Fellow in the Agnes Ginges Centre for Molecular Cardiology and Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow has been promoted to the Centenary Institute’s Scientific Associate Faculty based on research excellence, productivity and emerging leadership qualities.

As a member of the Scientific Associate Faculty, Dr Orchard will continue to advance her work into improving cardiovascular screening programs to prevent sudden cardiac death and catastrophic disability from stroke. She will also develop an independent research group at Centenary to further progress her research in these critical health areas.

Professor Mathew Vadas AO, Executive Director at the Centenary Institute congratulated Dr Orchard on the promotion, noting it was well deserved.

“A remarkable researcher, Dr Orchard is recognised both nationally and internationally for her important research in the field of cardiac screening in athletes as well as older populations at risk of atrial fibrillation,” said Professor Vadas.

“Her work is helping prevent premature cardiovascular deaths, as well as improve cardiac care for sportspeople and for individuals across the wider community.”

Professor Vadas said he was looking forward to seeing Dr Orchard’s career progress.

“Her work will add a new dimension to the world-renowned cardiovascular research that already takes place here at Centenary and further enhance our pre-eminent position in this area. I look forward to seeing her leadership qualities continue to develop and flourish.”
