Professor Seth recognised with Healthcare Impact award

The annual awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of women of colour in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, recognising the impact and leadership of women driving change across STEM industries.
The Healthcare Impact Award honours a woman of colour who has made outstanding contributions to medical science, healthcare technology or patient care.
Professor Seth, from the Centenary Institute’s Centre for Healthy Ageing, has been recognised for her role in advancing global understanding of liver diseases, particularly related to alcohol use. For more than 15 years she has been studying and developing genetic risk algorithms to predict liver cirrhosis, as well as creating accurate tools for alcohol use assessment – work that has helped shape clinical practice and improve outcomes for patients.
In addition to her research excellence, Professor Seth is a passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion in the STEM domain. She has served as Chair of Centenary’s Inclusion Gender Equity Program and is actively involved in a wide range of diversity related activities.
“Many thanks to STEM Sisters for creating a platform where women can showcase their excellence and be appreciated for their contributions,” said Professor Seth.
“Alcohol-related liver disease is a hidden epidemic that is often overlooked, yet it poses a major and disproportionate health and economic burden on society, especially women. Recognition of this critical area of research and my efforts within it, means a great deal. As an ethnic migrant woman scientist with lived-in experience, this award is more than a recognition of me – it is for all the women of colour who continue to break barriers, challenge stereotypes and create pathways for others.”
“I congratulate all of the incredibly worthy women who were finalists in this inspiring initiative,” she said.
