Dr Dannel Yeo is a translational cancer researcher and heads the Precision Oncology Laboratory (Yeo Laboratory), specialising in liquid biopsy, circulating tumour cells (CTCs), and precision oncology. He holds additional appointments as Senior Research Officer at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, and Visiting Research Scientist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
His research program bridges laboratory discovery and clinical application, leveraging CTCs and patient-derived models (such as organoids) to interrogate tumour biology, identify resistance mechanisms, and guide personalised treatment strategies in cancers of unmet need. He currently leads 4 active human research projects across pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other malignancies, with a focus on translating liquid biopsy approaches into clinical practice.
Dr Yeo is a Sydney Cancer Partners Translational Fellow and has secured >$5.7 million in competitive research funding as lead or co-investigator, including grants from the Medical Research Future Fund, Cancer Council, Tour de Cure, and PanKind Foundation. He chairs the Cancer Research Network Pancreatic Cancer Special Interest Group and sits on the Translational Research Committee for the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group.
