Centenary Institute and Guangzhou Medical University sign MOU

The Centenary Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Guangzhou Medical University, one of China's leading institutions renowned for its pioneering research in respiratory diseases, oncology and infectious diseases.

The MOU aims to strengthen research collaborations and facilitate personnel exchanges between the two organisations. Key areas of cooperation include joint research projects, academic exchanges and visits, shared training programs and the co-hosting of academic conferences and seminars.

During his visit to Guangzhou to sign the MOU, Professor Marc Pellegrini, Executive Director at the Centenary Institute, highlighted the significance of the agreement in advancing medical research.

“By combining our strengths and sharing our knowledge, we can make impactful strides in understanding and treating some of the world’s most challenging diseases,” Professor Pellegrini said.

While at Guangzhou Medical University, Professor Pellegrini toured the National Centre for Respiratory Medicine, where he observed the latest in technological advancements, including an AI-based diagnostic system for lung disease and a remote-operation lung surgery robot.

Professor Pellegrini also presented at the GISU International Research Symposium, discussing his research into virus-infected cells that can lead to cancer as well as potential treatment strategies.

Dr Yanfei (Jacob) Qi, a Laboratory Head within the Centenary Institute’s Centre for Cardiovascular Research, also attended the MOU event and presented at the Symposium. His talk focused on the role of bioactive lipids (fats) in liver diseases and related new therapeutic approaches.
