Centenary exhibition brings medical research to life in hospital spaces
The SLHD March Arts program celebrates creativity across the district’s hospitals and health services, recognising the important role art plays in wellbeing, connection and healing.
As part of this year’s program, Centenary’s exhibition brings the striking visual power of medical research into public hospital spaces. The display features captivating scientific images generated by Centenary researchers in their pursuit of life-saving discoveries.
Among the works are vibrant microscopy images that offer a rare glimpse into the cellular landscape of the body. Beyond their visual impact, the images reflect research aimed at better understanding and targeting some of Australia’s most significant disease burdens including cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Centenary Institute Executive Director Professor Marc Pellegrini joined SLHD Chief Executive Deb Wilcox AM at the official launch event.
“These images reveal the extraordinary beauty and complexity that exists within the body, but they also tell a deeper story about the research underway to tackle some of our most serious diseases,” said Professor Pellegrini.
“We are extremely proud to be part of the SLHD March Arts program and to share our science in a way that connects with patients, families and the broader community.”
The When Art Meets Science exhibition is now on display at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Canterbury Hospital and Concord Hospital. A digital showcase of Centenary images is also being featured at Balmain Hospital and Sydney Dental Hospital, extending the reach of the exhibition across large parts of the city.
